I was having a holiday in Madeira after 25 years, now with the family. I only had possibility for two dives in here, but luckily Atalaia diving center was just in our hotel. The crew, Pedro, Ainhoa, Jason, Michelle, Antonio, was super! Extremely professional and extraordinary friendly. very nice diving spots close by. The team can make a person feel being just the one in focus. Those two dives were actually as a whole my best dives in any foreign dive center (and I have visited some in my life). Big, big thanks and all the best for the future!

After our amazing first try scuba dive experience at Atalaia Diving Center (see the first review), I decided to go for my SSI Open Water Diver certification – and it was absolutely perfect!
My instructor Ainhoa was incredible from start to finish. She explained everything with patience and clarity, and her calm, positive energy made the whole learning process so enjoyable.
Day 1 started with a detailed briefing, some theory, and a pool session where we did all the important safety and confidence-building exercises.
Day 2 included two dives in the Atlantic Ocean – the first one with Michelle and the second with Ainhoa – both amazing experiences that helped me improve my buoyancy and overall safety and confidence underwater.
Day 3 I did two more dives with Ainhoa, and with each one I felt more comfortable and more in control.
We saw so much marine life during these dives – octopuses, a Butterfly Ray, crabs and many other fascinating creatures. Both Ainhoa and Michelle were always focused on helping me feel safe and confident, especially when practicing things like clearing water from the mask, managing breathing underwater, during some emergency exercises and maintaining the right buoyancy.
Through their guidance, I learned that there’s no reason to panic, that there’s always a plan for every (underwater) situation, and that diving is all about calmness, (self) awareness, and respect for the ocean. They also taught me the importance of being a responsible diver – acting as a guest underwater and leaving no negative impact on marine life or the beautiful underwater landscape.
Huge thanks again to Ainhoa, Michelle, and the whole Atalaia team for making this such an unforgettable (learning) experience.
The SSI Open Water course is just the door opener to an incredible new world – and Atalaia also offers this course from PADI, different specialty courses, boat dives, and so much more.
Atalaia‘s house reef and their other spots around offer a wide range of different landscapes and cool marine life to explore.
I can’t recommend Atalaia Diving Center enough – it’s the perfect place to learn, feel safe, and truly fall (and stay) in love with diving! 🌊🤿

We did our very first try scuba dive at Atalaia Diving Center on Madeira, and it was an absolutely incredible experience!
Before booking, we just stopped by and made an appointment for our dive. Pedro was so kind from the very beginning — he explained what to expect during our first dive session and answered all of our questions in such a relaxed and friendly way.
On the dive day:
Our Divemaster Michelle was amazing – calm, focused, open to all our questions, and she really made us feel safe and comfortable the whole time. We started with a detailed briefing about what we were going to do during the day (some pool exercises, information about the dive spot, and a bit of theory about the equipment and basic “how-to”).
After the briefing, we geared up and began some safety-related exercises in the pool. Michelle didn’t rush through anything — she made sure we felt safe and gained confidence while breathing underwater. Once we felt ready, we jumped into the Atlantic Ocean for our very first test dive. It was unforgettable, and we were completely hooked from the moment we went under!
The house reef at Atalaia has a stunning underwater landscape, and we already saw some really cool marine life. Throughout the entire dive, Michelle was always aware of how we were feeling and made sure we were safe at every moment.
Long story short: it was such a great experience that I decided to go all in and start my SSI Open Water certification before flying back home (but more about that in my second review!).
Huge thanks to Michelle and the whole team at Atalaia Diving Center for introducing us to the underwater world in such a perfect way.

Wir haben uns von der ersten Minute an unglaublich wohlgefühlt! 🌊✨
Die Mitarbeiter sind nicht nur professionell, sondern auch mit ganz viel Herz bei der Sache. Man merkt sofort, wie viel Liebe und Leidenschaft sie in ihre Arbeit stecken. Jede Frage wurde geduldig beantwortet, die Betreuung war herzlich und aufmerksam – einfach rundum perfekt.
Die Atmosphäre an der Basis ist familiär, man fühlt sich sofort willkommen und gut aufgehoben. Sowohl über als auch unter Wasser war alles top organisiert und wir konnten unsere Tauchgänge in vollen Zügen genießen. Wir sind mit einem Lächeln gekommen und mit einem noch größeren wieder gegangen.
Vielen Dank an das gesamte Team – ihr macht die Tauchbasis zu einem ganz besonderen Ort! Wir freuen uns schon jetzt auf unseren nächsten Besuch. 💙🐠

Thank you so much to the team at Atalaia Diving for a wonderful experience. My family and I hadn’t dived for 3 years so we did the refresher course. Our instructor Michelle was fantastic and very quickly put us at ease in the pool before our dives on the lovely house reef. The reef dives were amazing with so many fish! I would very much recommend this friendly and professional diving company.

We spent one magical week with Atalaia. My two sons made the advanced diving course and had the time of their lives!
The house reef is so exiting, the trips two the wrack, caves and national parks unforgettable!

It was a wonderful week at your diving base. We haven’t had the chance to meet such kind, warm, and friendly people in a long time. The dive sites were absolutely beautiful, with an incredible variety of fish! Our highlights were the ray at the wreck and the seahorse on our last dive, although Ainhoa unfortunately missed it. Keep up the amazing work—we’ll definitely be back.

Hallo Ainoah, Litty, Pedro and Marco !
Ich konnte Euch leider letzte Woche nur bei 4 Tauchgängen begleiten, da mein Madeira-Urlaub eben kein reiner Tauchurlaub war.
Aber was ihr mir an diesen 4 Tauchgängen geboten habt, war große Klasse. Trotz relativ schlechtem Wetter und hohen Wellen, habe ich unter Wasser eine regelrechte "Fischexplosion" erlebt. Zackenbarsche, Barakudas, Schmeterlingsrochen und jede Menge Fischschwärme !
Ihr seid ein super-freundliches und engagiertes Team und wenn ich wieder nach Madeira komme - dann sicher zu Euch. Gruß Oli D.

We were a group of 14 divers at Atalaia. As we booked the dives with a local guide, we were divided into small buddy teams and therefore had great supervision. Underwater, all the guides went out of their way to show us lots of things. Our hotel was directly adjacent to the dive center, so the distances were short and we were able to spend the surface interval in a relaxed manner.
The team at the Atalai dive center is very professional and works to a high standard. The base is well maintained and clean. The staff are helpful, courteous and always friendly. The price-performance ratio is very fair.

That Eagle Ray Moment…
Dear Atalaia Team,
after eight years of a diving abstinence I trusted you to start this beautiful sport again - I couldn’t have asked for a better Basecamp and Team for this endeavor. From the very beginning you took such good care of me and guided me through all the necessary stages from the refresher, the first dives together until we went out by boat to discover a ship wreck on a depth of around 30m.
I admire your professionalism on each and every step from the precise briefing in the morning, the careful gear-up in your great Dive Base and the diving in your beautiful house reefs itself. At every point I felt absolutely safe and gained a lot of confidence throughout my eight dives with you. Unfortunately I needed to head back home today, but I definitely will visit you again as soon as it’s possible 🙂

My boyfriend and I never scuba dived before and wanted to try that on our Madeira vacation. Our diving session with Ainhoa was super fun and we will dive another time for sure! Would highly recommend the experience 🙂

27.4.24-11.424 Urlaub im Rocamar, Sehr Freundlichen Empfang beim ersten Vorbeischauen. Die 6 Tauchgänge an 5 Tagen 3xBootstauchgänge inklusive mit Wrack für 403€ waren exzellent organisiert und durchgeführt auch für mich mit 40 Tauchgängen 15liter Flasche und Tauchcomputer. 5 ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Sehr zu empfehlen kein Druck und Stress alles total Entspannt

Selten wurden wir so persönlich und zuvorkommend betreut wie bei Atalaia-Diving. Hier steht die Zufriedenheit der Kunden noch auf erster Stelle. So macht Tauchen Spaß. Vielen Dank an das sympathische Team.

Wir waren 8 Tage in der Atalaja Tauchbasis. Das Team war sehr nett, hilfsbereit, super professionell und ist auf unsere Wünsche eingegangen. Ich kann diese Tauchbasis nur wärmstens empfehlen.
